The Services I offer
Play therapy helps  children who are between the ages of 3 and 12. Children don’t have the language yet to express their muddled feelings and upsetting events. The play therapist uses different mediums to help understand the emotional experiences they are struggling with internally. Mediums such as the sand pit, play dough, puppets, story-telling or drawings to help  children to explore their feelings and communicate at their level and at their  pace their troubles. Playing out traumatic or difficult experiences allows them to make sense of what has happened and provides scope for the children to cope better in the future.

With the older child (12 to 18) talk therapy is suitable as they function on a higher cognitive level and are able to tell of their concerns and hurt.  However mediums can be used if they wish.

As a play therapist I am trained to assist your child in playing in a way that will help him express emotions, explore problems, learn new skills, and resolve troubling situations. With the younger child, who yet doesn’t have the words to express himself, we do a lot of play; with the older child talk therapy is suitable.

Play is your child’s natural way of expressing himself. In my time with your child I provide him with opportunities to play out his thoughts, his feelings and his problems in a safe environment. Your child is allowed to explore the wide range of toys or mediums that have been carefully selected. Sometimes I play along with your child and sometimes I act as an observer. And as our relationship develops your child gains greater insight into his personal problems, through play.

In my play room I use the following toys or mediums:  creative visualization/imagery, puppets, music, sand play, painting and drawing and play dough. I read stories or tell stories to your child that is relevant to his situation
